Purpose of This Procedure:
To give instruction has how to obtain water samples.
Subsequent samples are taken periodically.
Personal Protective Equipment and Tools:
Gloves, shoe covers and protective coveralls, Hand tools, Gates hose 1/2”+3/4”, Teel Circulation Pump with valves and ‘Y’ strainer, extension cord and drip tray. Radiation Safety technician must be present

Detailed Procedure:
Radiation Safety personnel must be present and unlock valves #1 and #2
Rubber gloves and protective coveralls must be worn.
1. Connect the circulation pump with Gates hose, 3/4” side to valve (#1), 1/2” side to valve (#2). Tighten hose clamps properly. Place pump in Drip Tray. Open Both valves on circulation pump.
2. Check that the 1/4” sample strainer valve is closed. Open valve (#1) and valve (#2).
3. Check for water drips. If no drips are observed turn on the circulation pump.
4. Allow pump to circulate for 15 minutes. Turn Off circulation pump.
5. Obtain water sample by opening 1/4” sample valve on ‘Y’ strainer.
6. Close valve (#1) and (#2) and relock with Safety Lock.
7. Disconnect the 1/2” and 3/4” hose. Drain excess water into an approved container.
8. Close both valves on circulation pump. Remove equipment from tunnel and check for contamination.
