How to calculate Dose Delivered after a trip:

1.         Make sure you are using the SAFETY 1 MINUTE Logger:  This example is to calculate the dose delivered to the NuMI Hobbit tunnel Scarecrow G:RD1224 on 1-29-09:

2.         Make sure you are using PRIMARY UNITS:

3.         PLOT the Data:

4.         CLICK Lumberjack Format twice, and then RETURN:

5.         EXPORT the data to E-mail (single):

6.         INPUT your EMAIL Address:

7.         RETRIEVE the Data from your EMAIL:

8.         COPY and PASTE the DATA into an EXCEL SPREADSHEET

9.         Notice that the counts per minute are recorded and that the elapsed time is 1 minute between each line of data, therefore each entry is the total counts delivered in one minute.  Subtract the Background counts; in this example it appears the background is 8 cpm.

10.       SUM the total net counts:

11.       CALCULATE DOSE by multiplying the Total Counts x 0.025 (since a scarecrow puts out 0.025 mrem per count).  If this was a chipmunk, use 0.0025 mrem per count.
You should also ascertain for a scarecrow whether there is a “divide by 10” divider installed on the output of the detector.  This means that the counts per minute extracted from acnet
are reading a factor of 10 lower than the real counts per minute.  Therefore, we need to multiply the counts by 10 to get the true counts.  In acnet, the database automatically corrects
for the divided by 10 factor, so the mrem per hour reported is correct when you plot in acnet.

12.       CALCULATION is finished:
